Charism

The charism of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is to witness and make present the compassionate love of Christ as revealed in His Sacred Heart through active missionary service, mercy, and solidarity with the poor and marginalized. Rooted in a spirituality that sees the Heart of Jesus as the source of all love and reconciliation, the sisters integrate prayer, community life, and apostolic ministry in their response to human suffering and need. Their mission is lived in diverse settings — education, healthcare, pastoral care, social services, and direct outreach — always seeking to demonstrate God’s love concretely and generously.

Short History

The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were founded around 1900 in Hiltrup, Germany, by Father Hubert Linckens, M.S.C., in the spirit of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (the Chevalier Family). Within the broader Sacred Heart charism articulated by Father Jules Chevalier, this institute of sisters was established as a missionary branch focused on service wherever the need was greatest. From their early work in Europe, the sisters expanded internationally, and today they serve in around 19 countries across six continents in ministries ranging from education and healthcare to pastoral care, social services, and elder care. They are part of a global effort to make Christ’s love known through works of mercy and justice
